The People’s Friend

Looking for new writing projects it makes sense to target the DC Thomson publication, The People’s Friend. It carries more original short stories than any other UK publications. Its values are very traditional, very safe, but that doesn’t mean that a writer can’t be ambitious in his choice of theme or character. One important point is that ‘The People’s Friend’ pays at an excellent rate and it pays at the point of acceptance. You don’t have to wait for publication.

My story is ‘Bringing Edna Back’. It covers three generations and its main themes are growing old, caring for the elderly and the passing years. I’m pleased with it.

One anomaly is that DC Thomson insists on manuscript submission and not email.

I presume the competition is stiff as lots of would-be short story writers target a very limited market.people's friend
