CHARLIE HEBDO

I’ve started writing poetry again this year – performance poetry. This week’s events have invited commentary. So much to say but let’s be succinct and at least say something:

IN MEMORY OF CHARLIE HEBDO

Left right   left right   left right

The left writes

or draws at least

Until no one is left

Except the right

Who tell us

They will protect

Our right to be left.

Left right   left right   left right

The killers are coming

The killers have gone

The forces of right arrive

To find the killers have left.

Right!

Take a left out of Paris

Track down the bad men

The ones who think

They have right on their side.

Allahu ackbar, these men say;

Their God is greater

He and only he

Is the right God.

So what are we left with?

The silence of Rome

And soon the assembled right.

Left right   left right   left right
